While it’s natural for a young adult to wonder about the possibilities that lie ahead, for Sheneque it’s a luxury. That’s because while her peers were studying and attending parties, Sheneque was being treated for advanced cervical cancer. “I’ve spent so much time making sure that my health was on track that I feel like I had put self-discovery on the back burner.”
As a result of her life-altering journey, Sheneque changed her career goal. “I switched from public relations to nursing and now I’m in a radiology program. I will definitely be doing something in healthcare because this is my calling.”
Her hope is to offer knowledge, motivation and comfort to others. “I feel I have gained wisdom and life lessons. I’ve had women in their 20s, 30s and 40s reach out to me on social media after reading my story on Columbia University’s website. They’ve asked me advice and questions, and I thought, ‘Wow, this is really something.’ I know what it’s like to be in their shoes, and I just want to be here to tell them I hear them, I believe them, and everything is going to be okay.”
